Daniel L. Webster, Esquire Fayette County Bar Association 2010 President |
On May 1, 1958, twelve (12) Fayette County Lawyers founded the
Fayette County Bar Association as a non-profit corporation, the
purposes of which included advancing the continuing legal
education of its members, promoting the administration of justice
for the public good, and encouraging cordial, social interaction
among the members of the legal profession.
Over fifty-one (51) years later, the goals of the Association
remain the same, and the realization of our purposes continues to
motivate the officers and directors of the Fayette County Bar
Association in the year 2010.
I am pleased to announce that at the January, 2010 meeting of the
Board of Directors, Marianne Miele, Esquire, was formally retained
as the first Executive Director of the Fayette County Bar
Association, and with this appointment, we are confident that our
effectiveness and efficiencies as an organization will be
significantly impacted. Please warmly welcome Marianne to her new
position, and forward to her any suggestions that you may have to
advance our organization.
With guidance provided by the Web-Site Development Committee, its
chairperson, Marianne Miele, Esquire, and the expert advice of
member, Michelle Dietz, Esquire, the Fayette County Web-Site is
now a reality, which will assist our membership in various ways,
but most importantly will achieve our continuing legal education
goal by providing access to all judicial opinions issued by the
Court of Common Pleas of Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
In addition, through the efforts of our Executive Director and the
Chairman of the Professional Education Committee, James E.
Higinbotham, Jr., the Fayette County Bar Association will sponsor
over twenty-one (21) simulcast seminars at the Penn State
University Fayette Campus during the time period of January 1,
2010 through August 1, 2010, and notices of each seminar will now
be available to the membership on our website. Thanks to the
Professional Education Committee, our membership will now be able
to fulfill all of their continuing legal education requirements
here at home in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
In addition, I wish to express gratitude to the entire Civil Rules
Committee, its Chairman, William M. Radcliffe, Esquire, and
especially to President Judge Gerald R. Solomon for their time,
effort and hard work in revising portions of our local Rules of
Civil Procedure which will hopefully promote efficiencies in our
civil system.
The final goal of the founding fathers of our Fayette County Bar
Association was to uphold the honor of the legal profession, and I trust
that all of us will recommit ourselves individually and as an association,
to upholding the honor of our profession in the year 2010.
